Boca Raton Morning Weather Update: Hot, Mostly Sunny Start With Afternoon Storms and a Flooding Risk

BOCA RATON, FL — Another hot, humid day is ahead with a mostly sunny start, then a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms late today. Some storms may be slow-moving with heavy rain, so localized flooding is possible, especially in urban and poor-drainage areas.

BOCA RATON, FL — Mostly sunny and hot this morning, with highs near 90 this afternoon. It will feel hotter, with heat index values pushing into the low 100s. Showers and thunderstorms are most likely after about 3 p.m., with lightning and brief heavy downpours. A few neighborhoods could see quick street flooding where drainage is poor, then storms fade this evening with a warm night near 79

Today’s weather in Boca Raton is being shaped by a broad area of high pressure aloft over the Southeast U.S., which is keeping the overall pattern typical for early July: hot afternoons and storms that pop up mainly because of the daily sea breezes. The big change compared to some recent days is that the drier, dusty air has moved out.

With deeper tropical moisture back in place, storms have more fuel to grow, and the air will feel more oppressive. The National Weather Service expects peak “feels-like” temperatures around 103 to 108 degrees today and again Friday, which can stress anyone spending long periods outdoors—especially older adults, kids, and people without reliable cooling.

Early this morning, a weak boundary and surface troughing offshore helped keep a few showers going near the Palm Beach County coast, and a couple of those could drift onshore around the metro area. As the day heats up, that offshore feature fades and the sea-breeze pattern takes over.

With light winds, both the Atlantic and Gulf breezes can push inland, focusing the most widespread storm development over interior South Florida first. Later in the afternoon and early evening, storms may merge and drift back toward the metro areas, including Boca Raton.

For the Boca Raton and Deerfield Beach coastal waters, winds stay light early, then turn south to southeast around 5 knots today, increasing to 5–10 knots tonight. Seas run about 2 to 3 feet with generally smooth to lightly choppy intracoastal conditions.

A few showers or storms are possible near the coast at times, with the better storm coverage later today and again in the afternoon pattern going forward. Boaters should watch for lightning, sudden gusty and shifting winds, and locally higher seas in and near thunderstorms.

Beachgoers should plan around afternoon storms and get out of the water when thunder is heard.
