Severe Weather Alert - Tuesday, June 2, 2026
BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — South Florida is in a hot, humid, storm-favorable air mass Tuesday afternoon as a front approaches and a stalled boundary keeps rain chances elevated. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect until 4 p.m. for east-central Palm Beach County, with a storm near Downtown West Palm Beach moving southeast at about 15 mph—putting communities from West Palm Beach toward the coastal corridor on alert. While Boca Raton is not specifically listed in the warning, residents in southern Palm Beach County and northern Broward should monitor conditions closely as storms can intensify and track shifts can bring severe weather closer with little notice.
The National Weather Service says the warned storm is producing 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, with impacts that can include hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to roofs, siding and trees. The statement also notes “tornado possible,” a reminder that severe thunderstorms in South Florida can briefly spin up rotation—especially along boundaries—making it critical to take warnings seriously even if the storm looks small on radar.
Locations specifically impacted in the warning include West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Lake Worth, Riviera Beach, Palm Beach, Royal Palm Beach, North Palm Beach, Lake Park, Haverhill, Cloud Lake, Palm Beach International Airport and the Port of Palm Beach, among others. If you’re traveling north from Boca Raton toward Lake Worth/West Palm Beach, expect rapidly deteriorating driving conditions, sudden wind gusts, and the potential for hail.
What to do now: move indoors immediately if thunder is heard or severe weather approaches. The NWS recommends taking shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
Stay away from windows, bring in loose outdoor items, and if hail begins, protect vehicles by moving them into a garage or under cover when it is safe. With heat indices expected to reach 100–105°F across urban areas, avoid waiting outside for storms to pass—get inside early and stay weather-aware through the late afternoon and evening.
Marine Update: Boaters along the Palm Beach County coast should be prepared for sudden strong wind gusts, lightning, and locally higher seas near thunderstorms as the warned storm moves toward the southeast. Consider returning to port or seeking safe harbor immediately when storms approach, and avoid open water during lightning.
