WELLINGTON, FL — The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says it is aware of a social media flyer circulating among local parents about a possible “teen takeover” at The Mall at Wellington Green on Friday, June 5.

The flyer, screenshots of which were shared with Boca Post, appears to reference a gathering at the Wellington mall and has been discussed in area parent groups on social media. Some parents expressed concern online about whether the post was real, whether teens may gather at the mall, and whether law enforcement or mall security was aware of it.

The discussion quickly turned to how families use the mall during the summer. One parent noted that moms often bring young children to the indoor playground because of the heat, while another commenter said seniors and parents use the mall for air-conditioned walking and play space.

Other commenters raised concerns about large groups of unsupervised teens, e-bikes in parking lots, and the possibility that a social media post could draw teens from outside the immediate area. Several parents said they planned to keep their children away from the mall Friday out of caution.

Boca Post asked PBSO Tuesday about the flyer, including whether there was any verified threat connected to it, whether the agency believed it was a real planned gathering or a hoax, whether extra deputies would be present, whether PBSO was coordinating with mall security, and whether the agency was asking parents or teens to avoid the mall.

“Yes, we are aware of this,” PBSO spokesperson Therese Barbera said in an email response to Boca Post.

PBSO did not provide additional details in the response about whether any verified threat has been identified, whether extra deputies will be assigned to the mall, or whether the agency is asking the public to take any specific action.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Boca Post has not independently confirmed who created the flyer or whether the gathering described in it is credible.

This story will be updated if PBSO provides additional information.
