WELLINGTON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Wellington has completed an expansion of Scott’s Place Barrier-Free Playground, with Village Council members and Village of Wellington staff marking the project with a ribbon-cutting at the park on Forest Hill Boulevard.

The park, at 12190 Forest Hill Blvd., is a barrier-free playground built to serve children of all abilities. The new expansion adds several play elements to the site, including a Revi-Rock Bouncer, a We-Saw multi-person seesaw, a Conical Climber, a Wiggle and Loop Ladder, grab bars and a hopscotch feature.

Village officials also expanded the park’s synthetic turf by more than 2,275 square feet as part of the project. The work included new landscaping around the playground, added shade structures intended to help visitors deal with Florida heat, and additional lighting aimed at improving security at the site.

The expansion builds on a playground that has been part of Wellington for more than a decade. Scott’s Place Barrier-Free Playground was created through a donation from Wellington residents Del and Barbara Williamson in honor of their son Scott, who died at age 6. The playground was designed to meet the needs of all children, with a focus on accessibility and inclusive use.

Before the park opened, Wellington organized a community build weekend that brought together more than 300 volunteers to assemble the playground equipment. Scott’s Place officially opened on March 1, 2010, and has remained a well-known family destination in the village since then.

The latest round of improvements keeps that mission in place while expanding what families will find at the park. In addition to the new play equipment, Scott’s Place includes a pavilion, picnic areas, restrooms and the main playground area, giving families a public space designed for longer visits rather than quick stop-ins.

For Palm Beach County families, the project adds another layer of amenities to one of Wellington’s established public playgrounds at a time when shade, surface conditions and visibility can make a real difference in how usable a park feels day to day, especially for younger children and families spending time outdoors for extended periods.

The park is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Sundays, hours run from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Residents visiting Scott’s Place will now find expanded turf coverage, refreshed landscaping, added lighting and new structures intended to widen the range of activities available at the playground. The site remains positioned as an inclusive public park space in Wellington, with the latest upgrades focused on both play value and comfort.
