BELLE GLADE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Palm Beach County man has filed a lawsuit against the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, claiming a PBSO officer failed to yield at a State Road 80 intersection and caused a crash that left him injured.
The complaint was filed by Juan Alonso against the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in and for Palm Beach County, Florida. The case, Juan Alonso v. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Case No. 502026CA005573XXXAMB, was filed on May 18, 2026, according to court records attached to the complaint.
Alonso is represented by Lavalle, Brown, Ronan & Schwencke, P.A., a Boca Raton law firm. No defense law firm is listed in the complaint.
The lawsuit seeks damages in excess of $50,000, excluding interest, attorney fees and costs. The complaint says Alonso resided in Palm Beach County at all times relevant to the case, and identifies PBSO as a political subdivision of the State of Florida located in Palm Beach County.
According to the complaint, the crash happened on June 17, 2024, while Alonso was traveling westbound in the 32000 block of SR 80. The filing says the crash occurred at the intersection of Hatton Highway and SR 80.
Alonso claims that D/S Lumbert of PBSO failed to yield the right-of-way and entered Alonso’s lane of travel while traveling southbound through the intersection. The complaint alleges that action caused a severe crash.
The lawsuit claims D/S Lumbert owed Alonso and the public a duty to operate his vehicle in a reasonable manner. Alonso alleges Lumbert breached that duty by negligently operating, maintaining and controlling his motor vehicle so that it collided with the vehicle Alonso was driving.
The complaint also claims PBSO is vicariously liable for the actions of its deputies when they are acting within the course and scope of their employment.
As a result of the crash, Alonso claims he suffered bodily injuries, pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, aggravation of a pre-existing condition, expenses for medical care and treatment, lost wages, loss of earning ability, property damage and loss of use of his vehicle.
The complaint says those losses are either permanent or continuing in nature, and that Alonso will suffer the losses in the future.
Alonso is asking the court to enter judgment against PBSO for damages in excess of $50,000, with the final amount to be determined at trial. The complaint also seeks costs, pre-judgment interest for paid unreimbursed expenses, and any other relief the court considers proper.
Alonso has demanded a jury trial on all issues triable by jury.
The allegations in the complaint are claims made by the plaintiff. They have not been proven in court.
