BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Saturday, May 16, 2026 BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Boca Raton will run mostly sunny and warm today, with highs near the mid-80s and a 20% chance of a shower or thunderstorm late this afternoon. Expect an east breeze to pick up through the day, with occasional gusts around 20 mph, keeping the beach side a bit more comfortable but also roughening the surf. Tonight turns more humid with increasing clouds and a small pre-dawn shower/storm chance. Sunday looks noticeably wetter, with more showers around and thunderstorms possible, especially as the day goes on. Heat will still be a factor both days, with “feels-like” temperatures pushing the upper 90s at times
South Florida’s weather setup this weekend is being driven by two competing ingredients: dry air aloft that has limited storms recently, and a steady feed of warmer, more humid air coming in off the Atlantic. The National Weather Service notes a dry layer a few miles up in the atmosphere early this morning, but that dryness should weaken some today as southeast winds bring in more tropical moisture.
Even with that added humidity, a building ridge of high pressure over the western Atlantic is expected to keep a lid on widespread storm development. In plain terms: we’ll have enough moisture for a few storms, but not enough lift to make it an all-day washout.
For Boca Raton, that points to a mostly sunny start, then a better chance for a few showers or thunderstorms after mid-afternoon. With the main trigger being the sea breeze, storms that do form will tend to pop up inland first and then drift, with the strongest activity favored away from the immediate coast.
Any storm that develops can still bring frequent lightning, brief gusty winds, and a quick heavy downpour. Sunday is the day to watch for higher coverage.
Boaters and beachgoers will notice a strengthening onshore flow. For the Boca Raton area waters (Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach), east winds run about 10–15 knots today, turning southeast tonight near 15 knots with gusts around 20 knots.
Seas build from 2–3 feet today to 3–4 feet tonight, occasionally near 5 feet offshore, with a moderate chop on the Intracoastal. A few showers are possible early, with higher storm chances returning Sunday into early week.
Conditions stay below Small Craft Advisory levels, but winds and seas will be higher in and near thunderstorms. Rip current risk remains elevated along Atlantic beaches, so use guarded beaches and avoid swimming alone.
