BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Partly sunny skies will carry Boca Raton through most of today, with a high near 84 and only a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm late this afternoon and evening. Winds stay light this morning, then turn southeast around 5–9 mph as the sea breeze develops. Tonight remains mostly cloudy and mild near 72, with a small chance of a shower or storm, mainly late. Monday is the day to watch: rain and thunderstorms become much more likely, and a noticeable wind shift to the northeast arrives behind a cold front

South Florida’s weather is in a transition today, and Boca Raton will feel it in stages. The National Weather Service says an upper-level trough (a dip in the jet stream) is moving across the Eastern U.S., which is weakening the fair-weather setup that’s been in place.

As that happens, a cold front to our north will slide down the Florida peninsula and reach South Florida by early Monday. For today (Sunday), we’re still on the warm, humid side of the front.

With lighter winds and plenty of low-level moisture in place, the afternoon sea breezes can collide near the East Coast metro area. That “meeting point” is where a few isolated showers or thunderstorms can pop up, especially later in the day.

Coverage should stay limited, but if a storm forms it can bring a quick downpour, lightning, and a brief gust of wind. Late tonight into Monday morning, the front arrives and the atmosphere becomes more favorable for broader rain coverage.

Boating conditions stay relatively quiet today off Boca Raton, with south winds around 5–10 knots and seas 2 feet or less. That changes quickly Monday as the cold front moves through: northeast winds build to 15–20 knots with gusts near 25 knots, and seas build to 3–5 feet (occasionally 6 feet) offshore.

Monday night into Tuesday looks hazardous, with very rough conditions possible—northeast winds 25–30 knots and seas building into the 8–11 foot range offshore (higher in the Gulf Stream). Expect choppy to rough intracoastal conditions in exposed areas and dangerous lightning near any storms.
