FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — BSO detectives are investigating the death of a pedestrian following a crash in Wilton Manors.

The crash was reported at about 6:41 a.m. Thursday, March 26, when Broward County Regional Communications received a call about a vehicle and pedestrian collision in the 1500 block of Northeast 26th Street, according to detectives.

Wilton Manors Police responded and began the initial investigation.

Detectives said preliminary information shows a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling on Northeast 15th Avenue in the left turn lane. The driver then turned left onto Northeast 26th Street and struck a pedestrian identified as Troy Nichols.

Investigators said Nichols was in a designated crosswalk when he was crossing the street.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded and transported Nichols to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.

On Thursday, April 2, Nichols was pronounced deceased due to injuries sustained in the crash, detectives said.

The next day, Friday, April 3, the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Officer advised BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit of the death.

At the request of Wilton Manors Police, detectives with BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit began investigating the crash.

The driver of the truck was identified as Michael Wendt.

The case remains under investigation by BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit. Residents should expect the investigation to focus on the circumstances of the turn and the collision at the crosswalk location on Northeast 26th Street.
