Janice Herbert, 53, Passed Away
TAMARAC, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit has reported that the individual suspected of the tragic death of a woman in Tamarac has been apprehended.
Rollan Powell was apprehended on Thursday, March 21 by BSO’s V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) Unit for the alleged murder of his spouse, Janice Herbert, which occurred on March 15.
At around 11;43 p.m. on that fateful Friday, a shooting incident at a residence at 4500 block of Northwest 45th Court in Tamarac was reported to Broward County Regional Communications. Responding to the call were BSO deputies and Tamarac Fire Rescue personnel. Upon arrival, Herbert was found inside the residence with a gunshot wound and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
BSO Homicide Unit detectives discovered during their investigation that Powell may have attempted to stage a burglary to mask the true nature of the crime and gave conflicting statements about what happened.
Powell faces charges of first degree murder with a firearm and has been taken into custody at Broward County Main Jail following his arrest.
