WEST PALM BEACH, FL (Boca Post) — The West Palm Beach Police Department has arrested 22-year-old Willie Gibson from Zion, IL for being in possession of a firearm on school property.

The West Palm Beach Police Department tells Boca Post that at noon on Saturday, August 27th, 2022, West Palm Beach police were alerted by Keiser University staff that a school investigation led to the discovery of a handgun and two magazines in a student’s dorm room on the campus at 2600 N. The gun, a Glock 10mm pistol, a 15-round standard, and the 30-round high-capacity magazine, along with ammunition, were recovered in the dorm room of Willie Gibson.

Gibson admitted to owning the gun and said he brought it with him from Illinois for “protection.” Gibson was also in possession of two ski masks however, they were not confiscated.

A search of Gibson’s room was conducted after students say Gibson showed them a firearm with a high-capacity magazine tucked under his waistband. School personnel then searched his room and found magazines and ammunition. When asked, Gibson told school administrators, “you found what you found”. Gibson eventually showed authorities where the firearm could be located, in an unsecured drawer located in the common area.

Gibson told Police he only got the gun for protection because the semester prior he had problems with some unknown individuals.

Gibson is cooperating with the investigation and faces one count of possession of a weapon on school property, a third-degree felony. He was taken to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Main Detention Center for booking.
Gibson is currently in the custody of the PBSO while he awaits his first appearance for the charge of “790.115(2C1) POSSESS OF WEAPON FIREARM ON SCHOOL PROPERTY”.
