WELLINGTON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — A 15-year-old boy was arrested after he caused a scare at The Mall at Wellington Green by igniting fireworks in the bathroom.

The Mall at Wellington Green was a hectic scene and many 9-1-1 calls were received as scared patrons called to report a shooting. PBSO deputies and the Bomb Squad responded to the mall.

The Mall at Wellington Green was closed for 3 hours following the event, due to the chaos.

PBSO says that they determined the sounds were actually consumer-grade fireworks, not gunshots. PBSO says the fireworks were ignited in the Men’s bathroom inside of the mall.

Deputies identified the suspect involved as a 15-year-old boy. Deputies located the teen and charged him with Felony Criminal Mischief, pursuant to F.S. 806.13(3).
