BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Boca Raton should expect a stormy first half of the day, then clearing skies, strong northwest winds, and a big temperature drop tonight.
Today’s Weather – Thursday, January 15, 2026
Boca Raton is waking up to a day that flips fast. The morning leans wet and unsettled, then the front clears out and the real headline becomes the wind and the cold that follows behind it.
For today, the National Weather Service forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms likely before 3 p.m., with a smaller window of lingering showers possible between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. After that, conditions trend drier, with partly sunny skies and a high near 73. The rain chance sits at 70 percent, and rainfall totals are expected to stay light for most spots, with new amounts generally under a tenth of an inch, though heavier pockets are possible if a thunderstorm rolls through.
Timing matters here. The area forecast discussion notes the bulk of the showers are expected during the mid to late morning hours as a strong cold front pushes across South Florida. Forecasters also flagged scattered to numerous showers spreading across the region through the late morning. Thunderstorms are possible, but the discussion suggests storm energy is limited, so widespread strong storm development is not the expectation. Still, any isolated storm that does develop could end up closer to the coastline.
In practical terms around Boca, the morning commute along the I-95 corridor could be damp with periods of reduced visibility in heavier showers. Keep an eye on slick ramps near Glades Road and other east-west connectors, especially if rain lines up with the busiest drive times. If you are running errands near the Intracoastal or heading toward the beach, expect quick changes in the sky as the front approaches and then clears.
Then comes the wind shift. Today’s forecast calls for a southwest wind 10 to 20 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon, with gusts as high as 30 mph. That means the late day will feel very different than the morning, even if the rain tapers off. It will be breezy, and that wind will be noticeable in open areas along Federal Highway, beach access roads, and across western neighborhoods where the landscape is more exposed.
Tonight is where the front really shows its muscle. The forecast calls for clear skies and a low around 43, still breezy with a northwest wind 14 to 20 mph and gusts up to 28 mph. That is a real chill for Boca standards, especially after a day that still reaches the low 70s. If you are out late, it will not feel like the afternoon did. Homes in western suburbs and open areas tend to cool down quickly, and it will be a night for jackets, not just a light hoodie.
The bigger regional discussion reinforces the cold push behind the front. Forecasters noted robust cold air moving in after frontal passage, with the coldest temperatures arriving early Friday morning. While the coldest readings are expected farther inland and north of Boca, the discussion also points out that apparent temperatures could dip into the mid 30s to lower 40s for coastal metro areas. Even if you stay near the coast, the early morning hours will feel sharp when the wind is up.
Marine conditions also deteriorate quickly today. The marine forecast for Boca’s zone calls for winds strengthening late this morning and this afternoon, shifting to northwest 25 to 30 knots this afternoon. Seas build from 3 to 5 feet early to 5 to 7 feet this afternoon, occasionally higher, and the Intracoastal is expected to be rough in exposed areas. Tonight, seas remain elevated and winds stay strong, which is why the Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through Friday afternoon. If you are planning any boating or even a casual paddle outing, today is not forgiving.
