BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Sunny skies arrive Sunday, but Boca Raton stays locked in a dangerous cold snap with early wind chills near 21, gusty northwest winds, and a high rip current risk along the beaches.

Today’s Weather – Sunday, February 1, 2026

Boca Raton wakes up in the kind of cold that almost never sticks around this long down here. Sunday’s forecast calls for sunshine, but it is not the warm, easy kind. It is bright and cold, with wind that keeps it feeling even colder.

The National Weather Service forecast for Boca Raton calls for a sunny day with a high near 51. Early this morning, wind chill values can dip as low as 21, which is the number a lot of people will notice first when they step outside. The northwest wind is expected to run 16 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. That means it can feel sharp even in the sun, especially on the I-95 corridor where open stretches let the wind move, or on east-west roads like Glades Road where you can end up driving straight into it.

Along the barrier island and near the Intracoastal, it will look calm, blue sky, bright light, but that wind will still be there. For anyone heading toward the beach, it is the kind of day that can fool people visually while the conditions stay hazardous.

Tonight, the air stays dry and the sky stays mostly clear. Temperatures are forecast to fall to around 35 in Boca Raton, with wind chill values as low as 27. Northwest wind remains around 15 mph with gusts up to 21 mph. If you are in the western suburbs, where things can radiate heat away faster after sunset, it is another night to pay attention to plants, pets, and outdoor plumbing.

The broader weather discussion from the National Weather Service describes this as one of the coldest air masses South Florida has dealt with since at least 2010, with a strong pressure difference helping keep the wind up. The same discussion notes wind gusts up to 45 mph have been possible through early this morning, and that dangerous marine conditions continue.

On the water, conditions are rough. The marine forecast for the coastal waters from Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach calls for a Gale Warning through early Sunday afternoon. For today, northwest winds are forecast around 30 to 35 knots, becoming 25 to 35 knots later in the morning and afternoon. Seas are forecast 10 to 14 feet, occasionally up to 18 feet, then slowly subsiding but staying very high. Even the Intracoastal is expected to be rough in exposed areas. This is not a casual boating day.

Beachgoers should also be thinking about the water even if they are not planning to get in. The forecast discussion notes increasing swell will bring a high risk of rip currents at area beaches, and the Rip Current Statement posted for coastal Palm Beach County puts that risk squarely in place for Sunday.

Current Advisories / Watches / Warnings

Extreme Cold Warning (Palm Beach County zones including Boca Raton)
An Extreme Cold Warning is posted, warning of dangerously cold wind chills as low as the upper teens to lower 20s, along with sub-freezing temperatures as low as the upper 20s to lower 30s in parts of the warned area. The advisory text notes frost and freeze conditions can kill crops and sensitive vegetation and may damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. It also urges residents to dress in layers and to call 211 if they do not have heat or lack shelter.

Freeze Warning (Palm Beach County zones including Boca Raton)
A Freeze Warning is posted for the same inland, metro, and coastal Palm Beach County zones listed above, with sub-freezing temperatures possible in parts of the area and impacts to plants and plumbing highlighted.

Wind Advisory (Palm Beach County zones including Boca Raton)
A Wind Advisory remains in effect through early Sunday morning, calling for northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. The advisory warns gusty winds can blow around unsecured objects, knock down tree limbs, and cause a few power outages, and notes driving can be difficult for high-profile vehicles.

Rip Current Statement (Coastal Palm Beach County)
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect from 7 AM Sunday through Sunday evening for coastal Palm Beach County, warning of dangerous rip currents and hazardous swimming and surfing conditions, with localized beach erosion possible.
