BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Breezy east winds keep Boca’s beaches hazardous today as a high rip current risk remains posted through Thursday evening, with only spotty showers until rain chances rise on Thursday.

Today’s Weather – Wednesday, January 21, 2026

Boca Raton is starting Wednesday with a familiar setup for anyone who has stepped outside near the Intracoastal or driven the I-95 corridor in the pre-dawn hours. It is breezy, the Atlantic is rough, and the beach forecast is the headline.

For today, the National Weather Service forecast for 2 miles ESE of Boca Raton Airport calls for partly sunny skies and a high near 74 degrees. Winds stay up most of the day. Expect an east wind around 15 to 21 mph with gusts as high as 28 mph. That steady onshore flow is what keeps the surf and swim conditions elevated, especially at Boca’s oceanfront beaches.

Rain is not the main story for most of the daylight hours. The forecast only carries a slight chance of showers between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., with a 20 percent chance of precipitation. If anything pops up late afternoon, it should be brief and fast-moving.

Tonight turns cloudier and a bit more unsettled. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a low around 69. Showers become more likely overnight, and thunderstorms are also possible after 4 a.m. Winds ease slightly compared to the daytime peak, but it will still be breezy near the coast with an east wind 10 to 15 mph and gusts up to 22 mph. Rain chances rise to 30 percent overnight.

The bigger local impact today is the beach and boating picture. A Rip Current Statement remains in effect for Coastal Palm Beach County, including Boca Raton, with a high risk of rip currents through Thursday evening. The NWS warning is direct: dangerous rip currents can pull even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. The guidance is to swim near a lifeguard, and if caught in a rip current, relax and float, avoid fighting the current, and try to move parallel to shore if you can.

On the water, hazardous marine conditions remain in place. For the Atlantic waters off the Boca area, a Small Craft Advisory is posted, and the marine forecast continues to call for rough conditions today. The forecast for the coastal waters from Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach out 20 nautical miles (and the adjacent offshore waters from 20 to 60 nautical miles) calls for east winds 20 to 25 knots today with seas 6 to 9 feet, occasionally up to 11 feet. Intracoastal waters are expected to be rough in exposed areas. A slight chance of showers is also noted this afternoon over the water.

Current Advisories / Watches / Warnings

  • High Rip Current Risk through Thursday evening for Coastal Palm Beach County, Coastal Broward County, and Coastal Miami-Dade County.
