UPDATE

The Traffic Homicide Unit of the Broward Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a tragic accident that resulted in the death of a Tamarac resident who had been reported missing over the weekend.

According to investigators, on Monday, January 8th, just after 12 p.m., a report was received by Broward County Regional Communications about a vehicle found in a canal near North University Drive and Southgate Boulevard in Tamarac. Responding to the scene were deputies from BSO, along with Tamarac Fire Rescue, Coral Springs Fire Rescue and Coral Springs Police. BSO’s Dive team was also called upon to assist.

Inside the submerged vehicle, a 2003 Toyota Highlander SUV, they discovered the lifeless body of Rondell Edwards. The vehicle and its driver were successfully retrieved from the canal, with BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit taking charge of the investigation.

Based on initial findings, it appears that Edwards veered off Southgate Boulevard for reasons yet unknown and ended up traversing through the grass swale before heading northbound towards the canal where his vehicle ultimately plunged into and became fully submerged.

Edwards was officially reported missing to BSO on Saturday, January 6th. The circumstances surrounding this fatal crash as well as its timing are still being thoroughly investigated.
