TAMARAC, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — State investigators are reviewing a non-fatal deputy-involved shooting that unfolded Sunday night in a Tamarac neighborhood after Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of gunfire inside a home near the 7800 block of Northwest 74th Avenue.

The incident began around 9:03 p.m. on Nov. 30, according to BSO. Deputies were dispatched to a residence after someone reported a male firing a gun inside. When they got there, investigators say they heard multiple shots coming from the area.

Deputies then saw 35-year-old David Pagan standing in the middle of the street armed with a gun. Detectives say deputies issued repeated commands for Pagan to drop it, but at some point he “raised or pointed the firearm at the responding deputies,” according to investigators.

Two deputies fired their weapons. Pagan fell to the ground, and deputies recovered two firearms next to him. Tamarac Fire Rescue arrived shortly after and took Pagan to Broward Health North, where he remains under treatment.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now leading the review into the deputy-involved shooting. BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units are handling the portion of the investigation related to what led up to the gunfire, and BSO’s Internal Affairs Unit is running an administrative review — standard procedure after a deputy fires a weapon.

Per BSO policy, the two deputies involved have been placed on administrative assignment while the investigation moves forward.

Pagan, who lives at 7801 N.W. 74th Avenue, is facing several charges, including seven counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and one count of discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling. The case remains open as multiple agencies continue their reviews.
