BELLE GLADE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — Glades Central High School named current school Police Officer Omar Haugabook as interim head coach of the school’s football team.

Glades Central Community High School has appointed Omar Haugabook, a former student and football player, as the interim head coach. At the same time, the school is searching nationwide for a permanent head football coach.

“We are proud to have Coach Haugabook leading the Raider football team in the interim,” Principal Melanie Bolden-Morris said. “He has a wealth of knowledge gained while playing here, in college, and professionally. Coach Haugabook has a great working relationship with our students and players and will continue supporting and developing the team during our head coach search.”

Haugabook currently serves as the School Police Officer at Glades Central High School. During the fall football season of 2023, he worked as the offensive coordinator at Pahokee Middle Senior High School.

Having played quarterback at Glades Central and graduating in 2004, Haugabook then continued his football career at Dodge City Community College from 2004 to 2006. He later played quarterback at Troy University from 2006 to 2008.

Haugabook has an impressive record in football, earning various accolades such as being named Sun Belt Player of the Year in 2006 and Offensive Player of the Year in both 2006 and 2007. He was also part of the victorious team in the 2006 New Orleans Bowl, where he was recognized as game MVP and received first team All Conference honors. Additionally, Haugabook was awarded Amateur Athlete of the Year by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission in 2006.
