21-Year-Old Woman Airlifted To Hospital, 70-Year-Old Man Transported By Ground

The 21-year-old female driver sustained incapacitating injuries. The second driver, a 70-year-old man, sustained very minor injuries and was transported as a precaution due to advanced age. There were reports of a shooting on the Turnpike prior to the two vehicles colliding in Boca Raton. FHP says they are still investigating whether or not a shooting occurred on the Turnpike prior to the collision in Boca Raton.

UPDATE

After several requests, FHP, who has been handling this crash investigation, provided the following update to Boca Post:

A silver Mazda 3, driven by a 21-year-old female from Boca Raton, was traveling northbound on S Montoya Circle approaching Boca Del Mar Drive. At the same time, a blue Toyota Prius, driven by a 70-year-old Boca Raton man, was traveling eastbound on Boca Del Mar Drive through the intersection at S Montoya Circle.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Mazda drove through a stop sign into the path of the Prius, resulting in a T-bone-type traffic crash.  The front of the Mazda struck the right side of the Prius.

The driver of the Mazda was totally ejected from the vehicle as a result of the impact with the Prius. The driver of the Mazda sustained incapacitating injuries as a result of the traffic crash and was transported to Delray Medical Center via Trauma Hawk for medical treatment.

The driver of the Prius sustained minor injuries as a result of the traffic crash and was transported to Boca West Medical Center via Palm Beach County Fire Rescue for medical treatment. This is still an ongoing investigation.

UPDATE

FHP tells Boca Post that there is still an active investigation to determine whether or not a shooting occurred on the Turnpike prior to this crash.

Several fire rescue crews raced to the scene near Montoya Circle and Boca Del Mar, just south of West Palmetto Park Road, in response to a rollover accident involving a silver Mazda and a blue Toyota.

First responders rushed to assist two patients, one of who was trapped under a vehicle. The trauma hawk was dispatched and landed at the YMCA across the street. One of the patients, a 20-year-old female, was transported by the trauma hawk as a priority 2 trauma alert. One of the patients was transported to the hospital by ground.

Officials say that the female may have been involved in a shooting on the Turnpike leading up to the crash.
