COCONUT CREEK, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A stolen car investigation involving Coconut Creek Police and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies escalated into a pursuit and left the Florida Turnpike’s southbound lanes closed near Sunrise Boulevard, authorities said.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted Coconut Creek Police with a stolen vehicle investigation that originated out of Fort Lauderdale. Authorities said Broward Sheriff’s Office involvement began in the area of Sample Road and the Florida Turnpike.

During the investigation, investigators said the driver of the stolen vehicle struck a marked Broward Sheriff’s Office unit and then struck a marked Coconut Creek Police unit. Authorities said a pursuit was initiated for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer. The driver then entered the Florida Turnpike southbound, according to investigators.

Authorities said the Florida Highway Patrol is handling the portion of the incident that occurred on the Florida Turnpike.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy and the Coconut Creek Police officer whose marked units were struck were taken to area hospitals for treatment of injuries that were not expected to be life-threatening, authorities said.

Following the conclusion of the incident on the Turnpike, authorities said deputies arrested an adult female. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries. Detectives are working to confirm her identity, and investigators said the specific criminal charges related to the incident remain under investigation.

As the investigation continued, authorities said the Florida Turnpike’s southbound lanes remained closed just south of Sunrise Boulevard. Motorists were asked to use alternate routes.
