FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives investigate a fatal scooter crash that that happened on Monday.

According to detectives around 11:20 a.m. On Nov. 3 a tip reached Broward County Regional Communications describing a crash that pitted a Broward County Transit (TOPS) bus against a scooter. The crash happened near the 800 block of Northwest Fourth Street in Fort Lauderdale. The scooter rider, William Smith was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, for care. Sadly Smith succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, Nov. 6.

At first Fort Lauderdale police officers arrived on the scene. After Smith was pronounced dead Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives took over the case since a Broward County bus was involved. Detectives say the TOPS bus driver was making a turn, from Northwest Fourth Street onto Northwest Eighth Avenue when a scooter rider struck the bus’s passenger side.

BSO says the investigation is still ongoing.
