LAKE WORTH BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — A West Palm Beach man was killed Saturday evening in Lake Worth Beach after being struck by a driver who never stopped, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office traffic report. The crash happened at 5:57 p.m. at the intersection of North Dixie Highway and 16th Avenue North.

The pedestrian, identified in the report as Michael Carmen Brennan, 77, had been walking across North Dixie Highway from east to west when he entered the southbound lanes. Deputies say he was not in a crosswalk and wasn’t wearing reflective clothing at the time.

As Brennan moved across the roadway, a Honda Civic traveling southbound in the inside lane approached the intersection. PBSO says the front left side of the Civic hit Brennan on his right side, sending him into the air. The document describes him “fender vaulting” off the car before landing between the northbound and southbound lanes.

The driver did not stay at the scene, deputies wrote, and investigators have not yet identified who was behind the wheel. The Civic’s year, model, and tag are all listed as unknown in the report.

Brennan was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m. from injuries sustained in the collision.

The Sheriff’s Office listed the case as a fatal hit-and-run with charges pending as the investigation proceeds. Alcohol or drug involvement was ruled out on Brennan’s part, according to the log.

The section of North Dixie Highway where the crash occurred cuts through a busy area of Lake Worth Beach with older sidewalks, mid-block cut-throughs, and frequent foot traffic. Deputies closed portions of the roadway for several hours as members of the Violent Crimes Division and PBSO’s traffic investigators examined debris patterns, measured the road, and tried to determine the Civic’s likely direction of travel after impact.

PBSO has not released any video stills, suspect descriptions, or recovered vehicle fragments. Investigators have not said whether they are checking nearby businesses or residences for surveillance footage.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash — or who notices a Honda Civic with fresh front-left damage — is urged to contact the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office or submit a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers.

Boca Post will update this story as new information is released.
