Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigation unit are now probing a crash between a vehicle and a motorcycle that claimed the lives of a man and a juvenile female, in Deerfield Beach.

The fatal crash unfolded at 7:22 p.m. On Saturday Oct. 18 near the 1200 block of South Powerline Road. Detectives say 65‑year‑old Douglas Hall was, behind the wheel of a 2025 Nissan Rogue, traveling south on South Powerline Road, when he tried to make a U‑turn to head north on Powerline Road. Investigators say that while Hall was executing a U‑turn the rear‑passenger side of his car was struck by Simon Dias Do Santos, who was riding a northbound 2002 Honda CB900F motorcycle.

BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue were first on the scene. Santos riding the motorcycle with a passenger and the two occupants of the Rogue were all rushed to a nearby hospital. Santos, who suffered injuries that threatened his life was pronounced dead at 7:53 p.m. That evening. The juvenile passenger, initially listed in condition later succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, Oct. 25. The two passengers, in the Rogue escaped with injuries classified as non‑life‑threatening.

Investigators learned that the northbound witnesses present when the crash occurred reported Santos was traveling at a high speed before the collision. Those witnesses also said Hall initiated his U‑turn from a distance they didn’t regard as a threat.

Detectives say the motorcyclist’s excessive speed may have helped cause the crash while impairment appears to be, off the table. The investigation remains ongoing.
