POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — Broward Sheriff’s Office V.I.P.E.R detectives nabbed a guy, from Pompano Beach in the hours of Sunday as he was caught sexually assaulting someone.

The arrest came about as a result of an investigation into a sexual assault led by detectives from the BSO Special Victims Unit, who in collaboration, with BSOs Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) pinpointed the suspects white 2003 Cadillac Escalade as a crucial lead.

On September 15th V.I.P.E.R detectives observed the suspect and his vehicle before following him to a gas station on the 500 block of West Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach. According to them a woman entered the SUV with the suspect. They later parked in the 700 block of Northwest Eighth Avenue in a nearby neighborhood. The detectives witnessed Matthew Cohen forcing the victim to engage in an act and promptly arrested him.

The detectives were informed by the victim that Cohen had suggested driving her to a friends house in the vicinity but instead insisted on engaging in activities with her and assured her safety if she complied with his demands. She mentioned attempting to escape. He prevented her from doing so. She felt fearful, for her life. Was relieved when law enforcement showed up just in time. After Cohen was interrogated by the detectives he was apprehended on charges of assault and unlawful confinement.
SVU Detectives mentioned they managed to remove the suspect accused of an offense from the streets with the important help of BSO detectives from the Pompano Beach District Crime Suppression Team along, with RTCC and V.I.P.E.R assistance.

The investigation is ongoing. There are more charges in the pipeline for Cohen according to SVUs detectives who suspect him of being involved in two other instances of sexual battery, in Pompano Beach district. With the possibility of additional unreported cases as well according to them.

If you think you have been affected by Matthew Cohen please reach out to SVU Detective Melissa Wallach at (954) 321 4729
