CORAL SPRINGS, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Coral Springs is once again drawing national recognition for how it documents and explains its finances, earning two awards from the Government Finance Officers Association for both financial reporting and budgeting.
The city’s Finance Department received the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report covering the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2024. The city has now received that award for 46 consecutive years, according to the city.
The Certificate of Achievement is described as the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. Coral Springs said the annual report was reviewed by an impartial panel and found to meet the program’s standards, including what GFOA characterizes as a “spirit of full disclosure” aimed at clearly communicating a government’s financial story to residents and stakeholders.
For residents, the annual comprehensive financial report is the city’s formal record of what came in, what went out, and how the city’s overall financial position is presented in a standardized format. It is designed to be more than a summary. It is meant to be a full accounting document that can be reviewed as a reference point year after year.
“Receiving the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is a testament to the Finance team’s commitment to creating a responsible financial strategy that ensures optimal economic outcomes,” Finance Director Kim Moskowitz said in the city’s announcement. “Our goal is always to maintain the city’s strong financial reputation.”
At the same time, Coral Springs’ Department of Budget & Sustainability received the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget document, an honor the city said it has now earned 35 consecutive times.
That award focuses on how a budget is presented as a public document, including organization, transparency, and usefulness as a guide for policy and operations. Coral Springs described the budget submission as strategically organized and aimed at making the city’s spending plan easier to understand and use.
This year’s budget submission also received special recognition for its Long-Range Operating Financial Plans, according to the city. Coral Springs said every scoring category for the budget document earned a rating of “3” (Proficient) or “4” (Outstanding), with reviewers praising the document as well structured, thoughtfully organized, and easy to follow.
“Earning special recognition for our long-range financial planning, along with proficient and outstanding scores across every category, demonstrates the care and detail that go into making our budget clear, strategic, and accessible to our community,” Budget & Sustainability Director Ileana Kyriakides said in the announcement.
City officials framed the awards as validation of an ongoing approach to presenting financial information in a way that serves multiple purposes. In Coral Springs’ description, these reports are intended to function as policy guides, operational tools, financial plans, and communication resources for the public.
What happens next is largely procedural. These awards recognize documents that have already been produced and reviewed, and the city’s departments will continue preparing the next cycle of reporting and budgeting materials. For residents, the immediate takeaway is that Coral Springs’ financial reporting and budget presentations continue to meet national program standards year after year, with emphasis this time on long-range planning and overall document quality.
