PEMBROKE PINES, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — A Miramar man was arrested for impersonation of a Police Officer after committing a traffic stop and then calling 9-1-1.
Pembroke Pines Police Officers apprehended a suspect who had unlawfully halted another vehicle by posing as a law enforcement officer.
At 11:30 AM on January 23rd, 2024, emergency dispatch received reports of a reckless driver near the intersection of Pines Boulevard and University Drive. The person on the call claimed to be a police officer and stated that they had pulled over the vehicle in TD Bank’s parking lot (7999 Pines Boulevard).
Upon arrival, Pembroke Pines Police Officers determined that the caller, identified as Davonte Clyde Thompson, aged 29, was not actually a police officer. It was discovered that he had used a stolen police badge to carry out the illegal traffic stop. The badge belonged to a retired sheriff’s deputy from St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana.
Thompson was arrested and is now facing charges for impersonating a police officer.
During the incident, Thompson was driving a silver Volkswagen Atlas with Florida license plate 73B ULB – this is the vehicle he used during the crime. Since it is uncertain whether Thompson has engaged in similar criminal activities before, we kindly request that anyone who believes they were unlawfully stopped by him please contact law enforcement immediately.
