PARKLAND, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that happened Friday, April 17, in Parkland.

BSO said the preliminary investigation found a 2025 BMW X1 was initially fleeing from the Sunrise Police Department in reference to an incident in Sunrise Police jurisdiction.

Investigators said the suspect vehicle was fleeing at a high rate of speed in the area of Nob Hill Road and Loxahatchee Road when the officer lost sight of the BMW. While looking for the vehicle at the roundabout/T-intersection, the officer noticed the BMW in the canal on the north side of Loxahatchee Road.

Sunrise Police later arrested Anthony Davis, according to BSO.

Detectives said Jerome Turner and Kelby Broward-Richardson could not be located at that time, and it was unknown whether they were still in the canal or had fled the scene on foot.

BSO said multiple units responded during the day to search for the occupants, including BSO Aviation, BSO K-9, BSO Drone units and the BSO Dive Team. The search efforts did not locate them at the time.

Later that evening, BSO said both occupants were located deceased in the canal by the BSO Dive Team.

Investigators said excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor. The crash investigation continues.

BSO said questions about the law enforcement investigation regarding the incident prior to the crash should be directed to the Sunrise Police Department.

For residents in South Florida, the case remains an active traffic homicide investigation. BSO has not released additional details in the update about what led to the initial incident in Sunrise or what findings may come next as detectives continue to work the crash.
