PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL — Palm Beach County drivers face three straight nights of stepped-up traffic enforcement heading into the Fourth of July weekend, with deputies focused on impaired drivers across major and secondary roadways.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Traffic Division announced a DUI saturation patrol running Friday, July 3, from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., followed by patrols on Saturday, July 4, and Sunday, July 5, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. each night. According to an advisory issued by PBSO, the enforcement will cover major and secondary roadways throughout Palm Beach County and surrounding districts.

Deputies plan to conduct "high visibility enforcement of all traffic violations," according to the advisory, with an emphasis on removing impaired drivers from the roadway.

The operation stretches across the Fourth of July holiday weekend, when evening traffic patterns typically shift on South Florida roads tied to fireworks events, cookouts, beach outings, and late-night restaurant and bar activity.

Saturation patrols differ from fixed DUI checkpoints. Rather than stopping every vehicle at a set location, deputies spread across a wide area and pull over drivers for observable traffic violations. That can include speeding, running stop signs or red lights, failing to signal, following too closely, and other moving infractions, along with signs of impairment.

The three-night operation begins Friday evening and ends early Monday morning. All three enforcement windows fall during overnight hours, when DUI activity is typically most concentrated.

PBSO did not identify specific roadways, municipalities, or unincorporated corridors where deputies will be concentrated, and the advisory did not provide arrest totals or comparison data from previous holiday patrols. Any results from the operation would typically be released after enforcement concludes.

For questions on the advisory, PBSO listed its Media Relations line at 688-3080.
