GULF STREAM, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) —A Gulf Stream resident was arrested after police say a dispute over beach access escalated into a physical confrontation involving an elderly man, his wife, and their dog.
Mika Olson Michaels, 51, of Gulf Stream, was taken into custody on March 23, 2026, following an investigation by the Gulf Stream Police Department into an incident that occurred the morning prior along North Ocean Boulevard.
The arrest stems from a March 22 encounter near a private beach access point in the 4000 block of North Ocean Boulevard, behind a condominium complex in the Town of Gulf Stream. According to the arrest affidavit, officers responded after a reported disturbance involving multiple individuals on the beach access stairs.
Investigators say the victims — a 68-year-old man and his wife — had been walking their two dogs on the beach and were attempting to exit using the stairs when they encountered Michaels blocking their path. The couple told police they were prevented from leaving and were told by Michaels that the access point was restricted to residents.
The situation quickly turned confrontational.
According to statements provided to police, the woman attempted to pass Michaels on the stairs but was blocked. As she moved closer, Michaels pushed her back. During the exchange, Michaels allegedly kicked one of the couple’s dogs as the animal tried to pass through.
The incident escalated further when the man intervened. Police say a physical altercation followed, during which Michaels allegedly struck the man in the face with a closed fist. Officers later observed a red abrasion on his left cheek. He declined medical treatment at the scene.
Police also reviewed cellphone video recorded during the encounter. Investigators noted that the footage appeared to show the woman being physically battered during the incident.
Additional injuries were reported after the fact. The woman later told investigators that her husband had visible bruising to his rib area, which she documented and provided to police as evidence.
The couple also reported that their 5-year-old dog, identified as “Spencer,” was kicked during the confrontation.
Based on the investigation, police determined probable cause existed for multiple charges.
Michaels was arrested and charged with aggravated battery on a person 65 years of age or older, a felony under Florida law, along with misdemeanor counts of simple battery and animal cruelty.
Authorities located Michaels the following day, March 23, while he was driving near 4333 North Ocean Boulevard. Officers conducted a traffic stop and took him into custody without incident. He was advised of his rights and transported to the Gulf Stream Police Department before being booked into the Palm Beach County Jail.
Court records show the charges include:
- Aggravated battery on a person 65 or older (felony)
- Battery (misdemeanor)
- Animal cruelty (misdemeanor)
The case has been assigned within the 15th Judicial Circuit. A first appearance hearing was scheduled following his arrest.
Under Florida law, aggravated battery on a person 65 or older carries enhanced penalties due to the victim’s age.
The incident centers on a beach access point along North Ocean Boulevard, where the confrontation occurred. The case will proceed through the Palm Beach County court system.
