LANTANA, FL — A Boca Raton man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Dixie Highway at Ocean Avenue in Lantana, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
PBSO identified the driver who died as Jose Bedoya, the driver of a 2023 Mazda CX-5. The crash happened at 11:12 a.m. on June 23, 2026, according to PBSO. The report lists the fatality time as 11:24 a.m.
According to PBSO, a 2017 Jeep Wrangler driven by Charles Velbis was traveling southbound on Dixie Highway north of Lantana Avenue when it struck a Chevy truck in a separate case. PBSO said the Jeep then continued southbound toward Ocean Avenue at a high rate of speed.
Southbound traffic was stopped at South Ocean Avenue for a red light, the report states. Bedoya’s Mazda was third in line in the left lane, behind a 2006 Honda Civic and a 2024 Ford F-350. A 2016 Toyota 4Runner was stopped in the left-turn lane, while a 2018 Toyota C-HR, a 2022 Freightliner M2 box truck and a 2026 Toyota Prius were stopped in the right lane.
PBSO said the Jeep’s driver failed to slow or stop for the Mazda. The Jeep struck the rear of the Mazda, sending it southeast. The Mazda rotated nearly 180 degrees, struck the Toyota 4Runner and came to rest facing north on the center line, according to the report.
The Jeep then continued south and struck the rear of the Honda Civic, PBSO said. The Honda was pushed southwest, struck the Ford F-350, rotated and clipped the left rear of the Freightliner before coming to rest. The Jeep rotated counterclockwise, struck the left side of the Toyota C-HR and came to rest facing east next to the Honda, according to the report. Debris from the crash also struck the Toyota Prius.
PBSO listed Bedoya’s injuries as fatal. Velbis and Honda driver Angelot Rameau were listed with serious injuries. Toyota 4Runner driver Samantha Perretty was listed with minor injuries. The other listed drivers and one passenger were listed with no injuries in the provided report.
PBSO said alcohol or drugs are suspected in the fatal collision and that the case remains ongoing. The report lists charges as pending, but the provided information does not state that anyone has been arrested or identify specific charges.
