UPDATE

The Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that traffic homicide detectives are investigating a crash Sunday morning involving a vehicle stolen out of Fort Lauderdale that killed a woman and sent several other people to the hospital.

According to investigators, just before 6 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, Fort Lauderdale Police were pursuing a stolen 2021 Mercedes Benz E350 in the area of Sunrise Boulevard and Powerline Road. The driver of the Mercedes failed to stop for police and headed north on Powerline Road. As the stolen vehicle approached West Oakland Park Boulevard, the drivers of a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze and a 2017 Dodge Durango were traveling westbound through the intersection on a steady green traffic signal.

As the Mercedes entered the intersection, it struck the Chevrolet in a T-bone style collision. As the Cruze rotated following the impact, it struck the Durango, which was in the adjacent lane. All three vehicles were disabled and came to a stop in the northwest corner of the intersection. Following the crash, the two juvenile occupants of the stolen Mercedes fled on foot. BSO Aviation and Fort Lauderdale Police worked together to arrest the two teens.

Oakland Park Fire Rescue transported six people to a nearby hospital, four from the Cruze and two from the Durango. An adult female passenger in the Cruze was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit investigation is ongoing. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is handling the investigation into the stolen vehicle.
