LAKE WORTH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — A 19-year-old girl died after her Honda HR-V left Custer Avenue late Tuesday morning and overturned into a canal in the Palm Beach Ranchettes neighborhood of unincorporated Lake Worth, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office traffic report.
Deputies say the crash happened around 11:17 a.m. on November 25, 2025, in the 3400 block of Custer Avenue, as the SUV traveled south through the residential area. The report notes that 35th Street is a left-turn-only intersection for southbound traffic, and the Honda did not make the turn.
The driver, identified in the log as Haley Rivas, 19, of Lake Worth, was heading south when she “failed to negotiate the left turn and drove off the embankment,” investigators wrote. The 2023 Honda HR-V then overturned into a canal that runs alongside the roadway.
Palm Beach Fire Rescue crews responded, removed Rivas from the overturned vehicle and took her to Wellington Regional Medical Center. She later died from her injuries at 7:48 p.m., according to the report.
Use of safety equipment was marked as “unknown” in the log. No other vehicles or people were involved.
The Sheriff’s Office said next of kin has been notified. The report does not indicate any suspected alcohol or drug use.
The Palm Beach Ranchettes area is a pocket of one- and two-acre properties with canals and drainage ditches lining several stretches of roadway.
PBSO has not released additional information on speed, roadway conditions, or any other contributing factors. No road-closure details were included in the log entry, and there were no other injuries reported.
This is a developing case. Boca Post will update this story if investigators release more information.
