U.S. Highway 27 Motorcycle Race Ends In Fatal Crash

Two motorcyclists were in an accident on Sunday afternoon in Weston that resulted in one rider losing their life and another being in critical condition afterwards due to a fiery crash near U.S Highway 27 at around 4;36 p.m on June 29th. The initial investigation showed that Mario Vasquez aged 63 and Asiel Mena Echevarria 35 were racing in a northbound direction on their individual motorcycles, along U.S Highway 27. The investigators mentioned that at a moment during the incident involving Vasquezs 2002 Honda CBR 600 F4 and Mena Echevarrias 2019 Honda CBR 1000 RR motorcycles were involved in a side swiping collision event. After the impact occurred between the two motorcyclists vehicles on the road surface causing them to fall and slide for a distance. Following the crash sequence Mena Echevarrias motorcycle caught fire which then spread to a portion of grass located in the middle of the median strip. Law enforcement officers from BSO along, with Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue teams and various local emergency response units promptly arrived at the scene to provide assistance and support during the incident. Both drivers were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with injuries that were life threatening in nature. It was later revealed to investigators that Vasquez did not survive his injuries and was declared deceased. At time of this composition being written down here Mena Echevarria is still, in a critical condition. The investigation is ongoing.
