POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office say they’ve arrested the man they believe opened fire outside a food store on West Sample Road last week, killing one man and injuring another.

The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 25 near the 600 block of West Sample Road, according to a BSO incident summary. Deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue found 52-year-old Tyrone Holton lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead.

As deputies worked the scene, investigators learned a second victim, Derek Floyd, had also been shot. Floyd wasn’t at the scene when deputies arrived; someone else drove him to the hospital for treatment. His condition was not provided, and his additional details are being withheld under Marsy’s Law.

The case moved quickly. BSO’s Homicide Unit, working with the agency’s V.I.P.E.R. team, developed a suspect and, by Dec. 2, had made an arrest. Detectives took Clarence Flournory, 40, into custody in Pompano Beach. According to investigators, the arrest came after they identified him as the gunman and secured probable cause.

Detectives say Flournory later confessed to committing the murder.

Flournory, whose listed address is 335 N.W. 34th Street in Pompano Beach, was booked into the Broward County Main Jail. He faces charges of first-degree murder with a firearm, attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a violent career offender.

The sheriff’s office has not released a possible motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
