POMPANO BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — A 66-year-old bicyclist is dead after being struck by a car in Pompano Beach.

A 66-year-old man riding a bicycle in Pompano Beach was struck and killed, and detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed at around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14, Simpson Fraide was traveling in a 2012 Honda Accord eastbound on West Copans Road approaching Blount Road. At the same time, Leslie Beck was on a bicycle traveling from north to south across West Copans Road, approximately 100 feet west of the intersection and closest marked crosswalk.
According to detectives, Fraide told investigators as he approached the intersection, he did not see Beck attempting to cross the road in front of him. Fraide stated he heard the impact, came to a complete stop and contacted local authorities.
BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded. Paramedics transported Beck to Broward Health North with life-threatening injuries. On Friday, Jan. 19, representatives with the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office notified investigators Fraide had died.
Detectives say neither excessive speed nor impairment are considered factors in the crash. The investigation continues.
