FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — Two people from Deerfield Beach were shot and later died in Fort Lauderdale early on

Vernaldo Donner and Terri McKenzie from Deerfield Beach were both shot and killed on I-95 in Fort Lauderdale early on Tuesday morning.

According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 2:26 AM on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023.

Fort Lauderdale Police Officers responded to the area after receiving multiple reports of a shooting. Upon arrival on the scene, they locatedVernaldo Donner and Terri McKenzie. Officers provided tactical medical care until Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue arrived and transported both victims to Broward Health Medical Center. Both victims were later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the victims were driving in a 2017 Mercedes Benz GLC 300 when the shooting occurred. The shooting began on West Sunrise Boulevard as the victims were entering the northbound Interstate 95 ramp. The shooting continued along the Interstate 95 ramp.

Based on the final stopping place of the victims’ vehicle, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department continues to work with our law enforcement partners at the Florida Highway Patrol but remains the lead investigating agency for this incident.
