BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Dirty Dining is based on state inspection records, and this week’s files show three emergency closures in Palm Beach and Broward, all tied to roach activity, along with a heavy run of inspections that turned up high-priority food safety problems across the area.
Some of it familiar. Pests. Temperature issues. Handwashing.
Emergency Closures: Palm Beach & Broward
State emergency-closure records for the week ending Jan. 4, 2026 show three closures locally. Each involved roach activity, and each record lists a time indicating the business was later cleared to reopen after the issues were addressed.
In Broward, Sub Center in Hollywood was ordered closed Dec. 29 after inspectors documented roach activity. The record shows the business was later approved to reopen.
In Palm Beach County, Tony’s Subs in Riviera Beach was closed Dec. 30 for the same reason, roaches, and later cleared. Two days later, Le Bon Gout Restaurant in Boynton Beach was also shut down for roach activity before being allowed to reopen.
An emergency closure isn’t a disciplinary action. It’s a temporary step inspectors use when conditions pose an elevated risk to the public or employees. The doors stay shut until the problems are fixed. Sometimes it’s fast. Sometimes not.
Other Florida Emergency Closures
Statewide, the emergency-closure file lists 15 closures for the week.
Outside Palm Beach and Broward, pest issues still dominated. An Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar in Orange City was listed for roach and rodent activity. A Church’s Chicken in Clearwater was closed for lacking a working handwash sink. A Tampa food truck, Tacos El Flaco, was cited for having no potable water.
Different kitchens. Same themes.
Inspections This Week: High-Priority Violations
State records show dozens of inspections across Palm Beach and Broward dated within the week’s reporting cycle, including inspections logged between Dec. 27 and Dec. 31. Many passed without serious trouble. Others didn’t.
Below are selected inspections that stood out for high-priority violations, gross-factor indicators like pests or temperature failures, or repeat appearances in the year-to-date data.
In Boca Raton, inspectors visited Taverna Kyma on Dec. 29 and documented seven high-priority violations, along with three intermediate and one basic. The report cites time-and-temperature issues for TCS foods, handwashing violations, a pest-related concern, and improper storage or use of chemicals. That’s a lot for one visit.
The same day, The Duck Tavern logged three high-priority violations, including food protection and chemical storage issues. The license has shown up elsewhere this year with high-priority findings.
Also on Dec. 29, How Ya Dough’n picked up two high-priority violations, tied to cross-contamination risk and handwashing controls. Boca Grill followed on Dec. 30 with one high-priority violation, but a longer list of intermediate and basic issues.
Down the road in Delray Beach, inspectors cited Blue Anchor on Dec. 29 for a pest-related high-priority violation. It wasn’t the first time that license has appeared with elevated findings this year.
In Boynton Beach, Le Bon Gout Restaurant shows up twice this week, once in the inspection data and once in the emergency-closure file. The Dec. 31 inspection lists four high-priority violations and nine basic, including a pest-related entry.
Nearby, Cucina Moderna logged three high-priority violations on Dec. 29, with inspectors citing handwashing and food-handling controls. East Ocean Cafe also had three high-priority violations that day, tied to food protection and hygiene. The Mixer Cafe followed on Dec. 30 with three high-priority violations and several intermediate issues.
In Broward, inspectors flagged Marcos Top Burgers in Deerfield Beach for three high-priority violations on Dec. 29, including food temperature control and handwashing problems. BRGR Stop Concepts LLC in Coconut Creek logged two high-priority violations the same day, and the license appears more than once in the year-to-date data.
Elsewhere in Palm Beach County, some inspections piled up violations fast. Pinolandia – Fritanga & Tortilleria in West Palm Beach logged 13 high-priority violations on Dec. 29, many tied to unsafe hot or cold holding of food. In Wellington, Yano’s Deli recorded nine high-priority violations the next day. Malakor Thai Express in Loxahatchee followed with eight.
Busy week. Long reports.
Disciplinary Orders: Palm Beach & Broward
The December 2025 Restaurant Disciplinary Activity Report, published Jan. 4, shows how earlier inspections were resolved, often months later.
Several Boca Raton establishments appear in the December file. Tom Sawyer Restaurant & Pastry Shop was fined $800 for a violation dated Sept. 11, with a final order signed Dec. 4. Kingdom Sushi was fined $600 for three violations tied to a Sept. 2 inspection. Narbona at Boca Raton received a $600 fine for a July violation. O’Connor Pub was fined $560 for three violations dating back to late September.
Elsewhere in the coverage area, California Pizza Kitchen in Wellington was fined $1,800 for four violations, and King’s Super Buffet in West Palm Beach was fined $1,600 after a 12-violation inspection earlier in the year.
Inspections are a snapshot. Conditions can change between visits, sometimes quickly, sometimes not.
