BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Showers build this afternoon, winds turn gusty, and a high rip current risk remains posted for Palm Beach County beaches through this evening.

Today’s Weather – Thursday, February 5, 2026

Boca Raton is waking up to a changing day, with a front pushing toward South Florida and a noticeable shift in the weather expected by this afternoon. The National Weather Service forecast for near Boca Raton Airport calls for increasing clouds, showers likely after early afternoon, and breezy west winds that can gust into the mid 20s.

For most of the morning, it should stay fairly quiet, but don’t let the calm fool you. Clouds thicken as the day goes on and the best window for rain opens after about 1 p.m. Showers are likely this afternoon, with a 60% chance of precipitation. The forecast keeps totals light, with less than a tenth of an inch possible, but it may not take much rain to slow traffic on the I-95 corridor or dampen the afternoon commute around Glades Road and Federal Highway.

High temperature today is expected near 72 degrees.

Wind will be part of the story. The forecast calls for a west wind around 7 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. That breeze can be felt along the Intracoastal and on the barrier island, and it can also make conditions choppy in exposed areas, especially if you’re near the water.

Tonight, the front clears out the sky, and temperatures drop hard for Boca. Conditions turn mostly clear, but it stays breezy with northwest winds 15 to 20 mph and gusts up to 28 mph. Low temperature is forecast around 44 degrees, which is a sharp change for early February and enough to feel raw outside late tonight, especially in open areas west of Military Trail and in the western suburbs.

The bigger message from the weather service’s discussion is that hazardous marine conditions return today as the cold front passes, and colder air follows behind it overnight into Friday morning.

Current Advisories / Watches / Warnings

High Rip Current Risk

The National Weather Service has a Rip Current Statement posted for Coastal Palm Beach County.

A High Rip Current Risk remains in effect through Thursday evening for Coastal Palm Beach County. The weather service warns that dangerous rip currents can sweep even experienced swimmers away from shore into deeper water. The guidance is to swim near a lifeguard, and if caught in a rip current, relax and float, don’t fight it, and if able, swim parallel to the shore to escape.

Cold Weather Advisory

In the broader South Florida advisory list, the National Weather Service also has a Cold Weather Advisory in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday for inland areas of South Florida where apparent temperatures are expected to fall to 35 degrees or less for several hours.

Small Craft Advisory

For marine zones that include waters off Boca Raton, a Small Craft Advisory is posted due to hazardous winds and building seas. For the coastal waters from Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach out 20 nautical miles, and the offshore waters from 20 to 60 nautical miles, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. Thursday to 7 p.m. Saturday. The marine message calls for northwest winds 20 to 30 knots and seas 7 to 10 feet expected, warning that conditions will be hazardous to small craft.
