Deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue found the victim in the front passenger seat of a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics rushed her to Broward Health Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Maurice Harrison, 21, of Pompano Beach. Harrison was also known as Girlalala, according to the agency’s report .
Detectives say the suspect, Shanoyd Whyte Jr., 25, of Lauderdale Lakes, was still at the scene when deputies arrived. A firearm was also recovered.
Investigators believe the shooting happened inside Whyte Jr.’s vehicle after a verbal argument turned physical. At some point during the fight, Harrison was shot while sitting in the car, BSO said in its statement .
Whyte Jr. told detectives he and Harrison had been in a relationship “for several years,” according to the investigative summary.
He was taken into custody, transported to BSO’s Main Jail, and is now charged with first-degree murder with a firearm.
