Carter George, 16, Charged With Manslaughter

JUPITER, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — Jupiter teen charged with manslaughter after shooting that left another teen dead.

Jupiter Police and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a shooting in the area of 645 Indiantown Road just before 7 PM on Saturday, July 22nd, 2023.

The first arriving officers located a white F-150 near the median and a young man suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower back near the rear of the truck. Police say the 18-year-old victim was being held by his brother near the rear of the truck.

Shortly after officers first arrived on the scene 16-year-old Carter George, who allegedly fled the scene, returned and was apprehended by officers as they suspected he was the shooter.

The victim was transported to Saint Mary’s hospital, the closest trauma center, where he later died.

Detectives interviewed the victim’s brother and another passenger say that the group was returning from the Lake Worth area where Carter George was hoping to purchase drugs, prior to the shooting. Carter George was reportedly “heavily intoxicated”, witnesses say he was drinking and smoking marijuana the entire drive, prior to the shooting.

Both of the other passengers told Police that they knew Carter George had 3 firearms with him. They admitted to having knowledge of possibly 2 BB pistols as well as at least 1 real firearm, a KelTec 9MM.

The passengers recall that while they were driving, they observed Carter George, who was sitting directly behind the victim, handling a firearm. Shortly after, they heard a gunshot. That is when the victim pulled the truck over, opened the driver side door, and fell out. Carter George told the victim he was sorry before running off. Detectives say that Carter George then hid the firearm in nearby bushes where it was later located by a K9 search. Carter George then returned to the scene.

Carter has been charged with the following:

  • 782.07 MANSLAUGHTER WHILE IN POSSESSION OF WEAPON
  • 790.23(1BD3) DELINQUENT IN POSSESSION OF WEAPON/FIREARM/AMMUNITION
