FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — Police are looking for answers after a young Pit Bull was found dead, abandoned next to a dog crate, in Fort Lauderdale.

On September 24, 2023, Fort Lauderdale Police received a call for assistance regarding a deceased dog found next to a house on the 1100 block of NW 4th Ave. The caller informed Police that there was a young pit bull puppy lying outside his house, near what seemed to be its crate. He mentioned that the crate was in poor condition, filled with waste and vomit and noticed that the puppy appeared to be very thin. According to the caller, he believed the puppy had passed away recently.

The caller shared that on the previous night around 1;00 AM, he had taken his own dog for a walk. At that time, the caller confirmed that he did not see the deceased pup on his property. However, he recalled hearing his dog bark during the night while he was asleep but didn’t investigate it further. Around 10;50 AM, one of the neighbors woke the caller up to inform him about the deceased dog found on the side of his house. Upon going outside, the caller discovered the lifeless puppy lying close to its crate and noticed a white tarp nearby.

Broward County Animal Care arrived with the officer and found a tan and white pit bull puppy, approximately 2 3 months old, lying on its side. The crate it had been in was a few feet away with the door open. Inside the crate, there was a significant amount of feces and vomit. The officer reports seeing fresh feces near the puppy’s body. The puppy didn’t have a collar and its ears were cropped very short. Police say it appeared that the puppy likely came from a backyard breeder and probably hadn’t received any vaccinations. The ribs of the puppy were visible, indicating malnourishment, but there weren’t any obvious signs of decomposition despite the presence of flies. Police say that one of the puppy’s front legs was bent at an odd angle.

Police canvassed the neighborhood, and saw a home with security cameras; however, the resident said the cameras were damaged and not working. Another resident  mentioned that his brother claimed to have seen a deceased puppy in its cage around 7;00 AM this morning.

Police say that the puppy apperearently suffered a slow and painful death, which could be classified as a felony offense.

Detectives are encouraging anyone who recognizes this dog or who may have witnessed this incident to contact Detective Ralph Bouyett  at 954-828-5639. Information can be provided anonymously by contacting Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
