FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Nonprofit organizations that want to apply for Broward Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) money will need to show up in person first.

Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony and the Grants Management Division of the Broward Sheriff’s Office are hosting a 2026-2027 fiscal year LETF Workshop from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16. It will be held at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, 2650 Sistrunk Blvd., Fort Lauderdale.

BSO is pitching the workshop as a hands-on session for charitable organizations that want to apply for LETF funds. The money comes from the seizure and forfeiture of contraband used in the commission of a felony. Under state law, BSO can use those funds to benefit the community.

At the workshop, not-for-profit groups will get information on qualifying rules and how to determine whether they are eligible to receive funding. BSO staff will also be available to answer questions and help with the application process.

BSO says attendance is required to become a recipient of LETF money. Groups also must RSVP online by noon on Wednesday, April 15. BSO notes RSVP email submissions are no longer accepted.

BSO says the LETF application will be available for download the day after the event. The deadline to submit the application is noon on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

For local organizations in South Florida, including groups that serve residents in Boca Raton and across Palm Beach County, the key point is the process: RSVP online by the April 15 deadline, attend the April 16 workshop in Fort Lauderdale, and then watch for the application release the next day.

BSO is handling the workshop and the grant process through its Grants Management Division.
