Coast Guard – Large Haitian Human Smuggling Venture Grounded In South Florida

MIAMI, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — United States Coast Guard, Miami Dade Fire Rescue, FWC, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and other agencies worked to safely ground a large number of Haitian immigrants from a vessel being used in a suspected human smuggling venture on Sunday.

Reports first came in from the US Coast Guard that a large wooden vessel was aground near the Ocean Reef area. USCG and other agencies quickly responded to provide assistance.

Initial reports are that the people involved in this suspected human smuggling venture are Haitian. Lt. Cmdr. Jason Neima, USCG, says “Multiple agencies responded quickly & worked closely to protect a lot of lives today.”
