CORAL SPRINGS, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — The Coral Springs Museum of Art is opening two abstract solo exhibitions side-by-side on Friday, Jan. 16, bringing Lisa MacNamara’s Underneath the Surface of Sight and Tommaso Fattovich’s Casa Dolce Casa into the Main and East Galleries at the same time.
The museum framed the pairing as a contemporary abstraction “journey,” with two different approaches that are meant to sit in conversation with each other. One turns inward. The other leans into the rough edges of the city.
The Main Gallery will display MacNamara’s Underneath the Surface of Sight which explores the concept of discovering hidden aspects in things. The artist bases her creations on human body anatomy which includes skin structure and cellular organization and energy pathways that she tries to reveal through her mixed-media artwork and sculptural pieces according to the show description.
The museum said MacNamara’s early influences were rooted in journalistic photography, which threads into how her work “examines what lies beneath perception” and aims for a more introspective, emotional register. The actual body appears on the surface yet the invisible presence creates a stronger sense of feeling than what can be seen.
In the East Gallery, Fattovich will present Casa Dolce Casa. The museum presented him as a Milan-born artist who learned painting by himself through his development of “Abstract Punk” as his artistic style.
Fattovich builds up layers with his hands and unconventional tools, according to the museum. The final product aims to duplicate the attractive deterioration which cities display through their urban deterioration. The basic structure of “home” exists but it presents itself in an unorganized and disorganized state.
Museum Director Juliana Forero explained that showing the exhibitions together serves the exhibition’s purpose by allowing viewers to experience two distinct abstract art interpretations during their visit.
The two solo exhibitions present distinct yet forceful abstract art interpretations when displayed together according to Forero. “The first section explores how home functions as a two-in-one area which brings together physical elements with mental aspects to enable people to express themselves authentically. The second section demonstrates that peaceful areas exist inside the human body. The museum staff expects their upcoming artist discussions to produce major museum visitor interactions.
The museum plans to host an opening reception which will take place on Friday January 16 from 6 until 9 PM to let visitors encounter the artists while they experience both exhibitions. The museum makes all event information along with RSVP procedures accessible through its official website.
Two exhibition-related events are planned for Saturday, Jan. 31.
The first workshop is Visual Language with Lisa MacNamara which offers hands-on fiber arts instruction from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The museum sets the participation fee at $40 for this event.
The museum will present In Conversation as a discussion event which brings Tommaso Fattovich and Lisa MacNamara together for a 3 to 4 p.m. discussion. The museum announced that the discussion would take place without charge for all visitors who could register for the event through their website.
Both exhibitions are scheduled to remain on view through March 21.
