DELRAY BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — The Municipal Beach at Casuarina Road entrance will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, December 8th, 2025 at 1:30 PM to recognize the start of a major beach nourishment project, the city told us on Thursday.

The ceremony will take place at 1:30 pm in front of the beach area which will receive the upcoming reconstruction work.

The project received funding from three sources which include the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the State of Florida and Palm Beach County. The project aims to restore sand deposits that storms and tidal movements removed from the beach while making the beach more resistant to future damage.

The event will feature Congresswoman Lois Frankel alongside Mayor Tom Carney and Colonel Bowman and Chris McNees from the Corps and Palm Beach County Vice Mayor Marci Woodward. The speakers will present coastal resilience information and explain how regional organizations worked together to create this project while showing its economic value for Delray Beach because it depends on beach tourism.

The funding for this project originates from multiple sources. The Fiscal 2025 Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act provides federal funding for this project because the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the county and city each contributed to the project. The combined funding shows that all participating entities back shoreline stability in Delray Beach.

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock received the construction contract from the Corps for this project. The construction team will deliver new sand materials to establish a protective beach layer across the damaged beach areas. The project uses established procedures to create wider beach areas which serve as protection against storms and natural sea level elevation. The construction work will start right after the ribbon-cutting event and will run until early 2026.

The construction site will establish equipment positions along A1A and Anchor Park while using fencing to create work zones based on crew operations. The project will restore recreational areas and create a protective barrier against severe weather conditions according to city officials.

The beach expansion project will attract more visitors because a well-maintained beach attracts visitors who want to visit this location during weekend visits. The winter season will bring increased business opportunities to local businesses because of the expected customer growth.

City Manager Terrence Moore stated in the announcement that Delray Beach works to protect its coastline while developing environmentally friendly development projects for community members. The different government levels have united to create a resilient Delray Beach through their collaborative efforts.

The city implements this project as part of its extended coastal protection plan which focuses on regular maintenance work instead of making single repairs. Delray Beach received two consecutive years of recognition as Florida’s top beach from USA TODAY’s 10Best in 2024 and 2025 and Atlantic Avenue became one of America’s top shopping streets. The city aims to preserve its current accomplishments through efforts which will prevent beach erosion from happening.

Parking is limited. Attendees should carpool and plan to arrive early as the area is generally very busy at that time of day.
