Claudio Cunha Passed Away

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — A Deerfield Beach man was killed in a 3-vehicle crash in Deerfield Beach on Saturday, June 17th, 2023.

Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide investigators say that the three-vehicle crash resulted in the death of a 53-year-old Deerfield Beach man.

The crash happened at about 11:20 am on Saturday, June 17th, 2023 near SW 10th Street and Waterways Boulevard. Investors say that Son Bui was traveling westbound in a 2016 Toyota Corolla sedan on Southwest 10th Street approaching the intersection of Waterways Boulevard in the designated left turn lane.

At the same time, Brittani Wright was traveling in a 2007 Acura TL sedan eastbound on Southwest 10th Street in the center-thru lane approaching the intersection at Waterways Boulevard. A 2021 Honda CBR 1000 RR motorcycle was also traveling eastbound on Southwest 10th Street in the center-thru lane behind the Acura.

Upon reaching the intersection, Bui turned south across the eastbound lanes. The front passenger side of his Toyota struck the driver’s side of the Acura in an off-set head-on collision. After the initial impact, the Acura was redirected southeast off the roadway, while the Toyota rotated counterclockwise and slid east directly into the path of the approaching motorcycle. Claudio Cunha, the motorcycle rider, was unable to avoid the Toyota and struck the front of that vehicle. Cunha was ejected and struck the Toyota’s windshield before falling to the pavement.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported Cunha to Broward Health North where he was later pronounced deceased. The drivers of the Toyota and Acura remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Excessive speed, driver impairment, and mechanical malfunction are not considered to be contributing factors in this crash.
