DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2023) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a tragic accident in Deerfield Beach that resulted in the death of a Pompano Beach man.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a tragic accident in Deerfield Beach that resulted in the death of a man on Sunday morning.

In the early hours of Sunday, December 10th, at around 4;21 a.m., the BSO traffic homicide detectives were called to respond to an incident at the intersection of South Powerline Road and Southwest 10th Street. They received reports of a collision with injuries. Upon preliminary investigation, it was discovered that Giovanny Hernandez was driving a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta heading northbound on South Powerline Road when he ran a red light and entered the intersection.

According to the detectives, an eastbound 2020 Freightliner tractor trailer collided with the Volkswagen in a T bone style crash. The impact caused the tractor trailer to fold in on itself, known as ‘jackknifing.’ Subsequently, it slid into the westbound lanes and struck a 2016 Ram 1500 pickup truck before coming to rest.

Emergency services from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and unfortunately pronounced Giovanny Hernandez deceased. The driver of the tractor trailer was transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries but has since been released. No other injuries have been reported at this time. The investigation into this incident is still ongoing.
