CORAL SPRINGS, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — Coral Springs is mourning the loss of one of its own after the death of Sergeant Ebony Winn, a longtime member of the Coral Springs Police Department who colleagues say spent her career putting others first.

The Coral Springs Fraternal Order of Police announced that Winn “gained her wings today” after courageously battling cancer for the past six years, calling her a “devoted public servant, a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and a true warrior in every sense of the word.” The union also shared a fundraising page set up to help her family with funeral and memorial costs. Winn joined the Coral Springs Police Department in 2008 and spent her entire law enforcement career serving the city, according to a statement from the department. She is being remembered not just as a veteran officer and sergeant, but as someone whose presence steadied the people around her.

“Sgt. Winn was more than a dedicated member of our department,” Coral Springs Police wrote. “She was a daughter, sister, friend, and a source of strength to everyone who knew her.” The agency said she served with “dedication and integrity, always putting others first,” and was someone colleagues could turn to for guidance and support.

The Fraternal Order of Police described Winn as the kind of officer who “embodied the very best of law enforcement—compassionate, steady, selfless, and fiercely protective of those she swore to serve.” Fellow officers knew her as a leader who “led with integrity, a mentor who inspired everyone around her, and a friend who could brighten even the hardest days,” the union said in its statement on the fundraiser page at GoFundMe.

Even while facing a long and difficult medical fight, Winn continued to pour “love into her family and strength into those who looked up to her,” the FOP wrote. Her resilience, they said, was “extraordinary,” and her spirit “remained unbroken until the very end.”

The fundraiser was created to help cover funeral expenses, memorial arrangements, and to give financial support to her loved ones as they “navigate life without their hero,” according to the GoFundMe description. Organizers stressed that any contribution, no matter the size, would help lighten the burden on Winn’s family and honor the legacy of someone who “gave so much to others.” The page also urges those who cannot donate to share the link and keep her family in their prayers.

“Sergeant Ebony Winn dedicated her life to service. Now, we have an opportunity to serve her memory,” the union wrote, thanking the community for its “kindness, generosity, and support.”

Coral Springs Police said Winn’s death leaves a deep void within the department. “Her presence made a difference, and her absence will be felt across our department,” the agency’s statement said. The department also extended its condolences to her family and everyone who had the privilege of working alongside her.

“Rest in peace, Sergeant Winn. Your bravery, your kindness, and your light will never be forgotten,” the FOP’s tribute reads, echoing the sentiment now being shared across the Coral Springs law enforcement community.

Additional information on services and arrangements for Sgt. Winn will be released by the department as it becomes available.
