CORAL SPRINGS, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Coral Springs voters will decide who fills the remaining two years of the City Commission Seat 3 term during the regular municipal election scheduled for November 3, 2026.
The decision follows the passing of Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer, who held Seat 3. During the Coral Springs City Commission Retreat on April 22, 2026, commissioners reached unified consensus that the vacancy should be placed before voters in November rather than immediately filled for the remainder of the term.
The candidate qualifying period for the Seat 3 race will run from 12 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2026, through 12 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2026.
The city said the election will determine who serves the remaining two years of the term.
The Commission also addressed the Vice Mayor position, which became vacant following Metayer’s passing. Under the Coral Springs City Charter, commissioners are not required to appoint a commissioner to serve as Vice Mayor.
Out of respect for Metayer and in recognition of what the city described as a difficult time for the community, the Vice Mayor position will remain vacant until after the November 2026 election.
Commissioners also discussed whether to make an interim appointment to fill Seat 3 until voters make their selection in November. No appointment was made during the retreat.
If the Commission later decides an interim appointment is necessary, commissioners reached consensus that preference would be given to someone who previously served on the City Commission and does not plan to run for the Seat 3 vacancy.
Any appointment would have to take place at a future City Commission meeting.
Residents interested in running for Seat 3 can review the required documentation and qualifying procedures under the Coral Springs City Charter, Article III, Section 3.04, through the city’s website.
The vacancy now puts a formal timeline in place for Coral Springs residents and prospective candidates. Qualifying opens in June. The election follows in November. Until then, Seat 3 remains vacant unless the Commission takes separate action at a public meeting.
