Ernest Durassaint Passed Away After Lake Worth Crash

LAKE WORTH, FL (Boca Post) — The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that they are investigating an accident involving a fatality after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle after he illegally crossed Jog Road in Lake Worth.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that at approximately 8:24 PM on Tuesday, September 6th, 2022, deputies responded to the area of Lake Worth Road and Jog Road.

Responding PBSO district deputies and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue found two vehicles and a pedestrian who were involved in a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash.

PBSO Traffic Homicide Unit detectives were notified and began an investigation into the incident. Detectives tell us that a Honda Pilot and a Nissan Altima were southbound on jog road, south of lake worth road. Meanwhile, a pedestrian, identified as Ernest Durassaint, was crossing Jog road, not in a crosswalk from west to east. The driver of the Altima, Perry Laurent, observed Durassaint and attempted to brake. Unfortunately, the driver of the Pilot, Hector Ortiz, collided with Laurent projecting the Altima into Durassaint.

Durassaint sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to st mary’s medical center. Durassaint died on Monday, October 17th, 2022, more than a month later, from injuries sustained during the crash.
