DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a crash that left an 80-year-old woman dead after she was struck while crossing Military Trail in Deerfield Beach late Monday morning.

Deputies say the collision happened around 11:58 a.m. near the 100 block of Military Trail, just south of Hillsboro Boulevard. According to investigators, a 2016 Nissan Versa driven by 62-year-old Michael Baldwin of Oakland Park was traveling north in the left through lane when the pedestrian entered the roadway mid-block, outside of a designated crosswalk.

Detectives say the woman, later identified as Maya Bobovik, of Deerfield Beach, attempted to cross from east to west when she stepped into the path of the oncoming vehicle. Investigators determined Bobovik walked into the passenger side of Baldwin’s Nissan, causing her to fall onto the roadway.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews responded and transported Bobovik to Broward Health Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead the following day, on October 28th, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives say impairment on the part of the driver is not believed to be a factor. The investigation remains ongoing.
